Some residents of Laguna Beach are saying that MTV's version of "Laguna Beach" isn't showing the "real" Laguna Beach. I was sent a very interesting article [Thanks Kristen] about that whole situation. You should definitely click the link below and read it. You can read a little snippet of the article below... Whenever he sees MTV crews in Laguna Beach, Derek Ostensen walks over and stands in front of a camera. He's not seeking stardom but rather to stop the filming - for a few minutes at least. Ostensen, 24, who was born in Laguna the year MTV launched, believes the network is stealing his town's soul with its phenomenally popular teen reality soap, "Laguna Beach: The Real O.C."
"We are a community that has stood for solid, meaningful principles... art, culture, the environment, quality of life, education," said Ostensen, an environmental consultant. "By contrast, MTV glorifies violence, drug abuse, the objectification of women as sexual objects, alcohol abuse, superficiality and a raft of other negative issues." dude that guy sounds like hes on drugs but ya people from lb are saying that lb mtv is diffrent and kristin says they edit alot out to make it look more dramatic
how does he sound like he's on drugs, seriously?? that makes no sense. He's taking a stand against the way MTV is portraying their community. I'd be pissed too.
I think the kids on LB are portrayed in a very realistic light. Is there someone out there who doesn't know that teenagers drink, smoke, and have sex just like real people? Adults may be uncomfortable with this but its very realistic. PLUS the fact that MTV has shown NONE of this on LB. Sure, lots stuff is implied, but they make a point of not being explicit! I'm as old as their parents & I love the show because of its timelessness and realism.
"New City, New Drama"
