Like so many Hollywood success stories, Kristin Cavallari's happened by chance. The day MTV scouts came to Laguna Beach High School in fall 2003 looking for students with personal drama to rival that of the characters on The O.C., Kristin, then a junior, was home sick. Luckily, she says, MTV agreed to see her the next day, and after hearing about the budding love triangle featuring Kristin and her school mates Lauren 'LC' Conrad and Stephen Colletti, both seniors at the time, the network was sold.Since MTV's Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County debuted in September 2004, Kristin, 19, has become a reality star whose own reality now consists of signing autographs and being photographed by the paparazzi. The newfound fame has led to TV opportunities galore (a February 15 guest role on UPN's Veronica Mars and a cohosting gig on UPN's new, feel-good makeover show, Get This Party Started, premiering February 7); talk of a potential movie career (she says she recently turned down a part in the Al Pacino thriller 88 Minutes because of scheduling difficulties); and a whole new Young Hollywood life in Los Angeles, 40 miles from her Laguna home base, which she left in summer 2005 for a Marina Del Rey condo.
