May 2, 2006 -- HERE'S a first look at the babes who'll be climbing "The Hills," MTV's latest reality show - a spinoff of its hit, "Laguna Beach."
The show will follow the drama that always seems to swirl around Lauren Conrad - better known to fans as L.C., the vivacious young blonde who drew so much attention on "Laguna" - as she moves to Los Angeles, works as an intern at Teen Vogue with new pal Whitney (bottom, center) and studies fashion in school.
"It's basically the 'Melrose Place' to 'Laguna's' 'Beverly Hills 90210,'" says "The Hills" creator and executive producer Adam DiVello, who also worked on the original.
"The Hills" will build on MTV's already successful formula of filming a reality show as if it were a drama by using camera crews and editors who have experience working for network prime-time shows.
Like "Laguna" and its sister show, "8th & Ocean," there are no confessionals and no narration, as is the custom in most reality shows. Instead, the series is filmed using multiple cameras and high-quality film.
In an unorthodox move, producers went along with L.C.'s suggestion to cast one of her new neighbors, Audrina (top), a luscious model/ actress, as a regular on the show.
L.C.'s roommate, Heidi, met Audrina by the pool and they became instant friends, DiVello says. Soon afterward, Heidi went to producers and said, "Hey, there's this great girl in the building."
