Wednesday, December 13, 2006 || The Hills season 2, Coming January 2007
Missing Laguna Beach already? Haven't seen enough of Lauren/"L.C." lately? Well, Lauren Conrad's official email newsletter has confirmed that we will see a second season of The Hills starting in January 2007, that's only a month away, something great to look foward to next year. Here is what Lauren's mailing list email said: LaurenConrad.com is excited to be the first to let you know that the second season of The Hills is set to premiere sometime in January! Keep checking the latest on Lauren's site to find out the exact date. We can't tell you what is in store for Lauren and the girls this season, but we know you won't want to miss a single episode this season.
Another MTV reality show taking place in L.A. is Twentyfourseven, which premiered last week. A new Fox Reality article says that both shows were filming around the same time, and that Lauren of The Hills and Greg Carney of Twentyfourseven are both very good friends. They have a lot in common, both young, like to party, and have reality shows on MTV. The article says:
Twentyfourseven filmed in many of the same Hollywood locales as The Hills, occasionally at the same time, and Carney coyly hints that the projects, though they will have no on-screen crossovers, may share more than a backdrop. Of Lauren Conrad, the former Laguna Beach fan favorite who went on to star in The Hills, he says the two are "good friends." Then he grins and repeats himself for emphasis. "Very good friends."
Back to the second season of The Hills- this season, we are almost sure that you'll see appearances by Jenn (Lauren's friend from Laguna Beach Seasons 1-2), Stephen (Who has been seen hanging out with Lauren in L.A. night clubs), Brody Jenner (Kristin's ex, who dated Lauren for a short time), Jason (who broke up with Lauren, possibly towards the beginning of season 2) and of course last season's regulars- Whitney, Audreina, and Hedi.

Um, excuse me b-red, but The Hills doesn't need an 'attention-getter' to get people to watch the show. The Hills was one of the top-rated shows last season, I heard something like 3 million viewers a week? She doesn't need Brody for publicity or an attention-getter. So don't say they need something relating to Kristin as an attention-getter.
Hello..I originally wrote this so please keep in mind that I am not official from MTV and the only thing that has been announced is when the show premiere, everything else is speculation. You will see much more about this such as previews and trailers that will lead up to the season premiere towards the end of January. i love ben, how is ephemerelle's post "gay"? that is very disrespectful. Are you a homophobe? That's a very bigotted remark, to imply that the "word" should be used to negatively describe something. I am sure the gay community would be disgusted at the context with which you have used that word UGH
And Ephemerelle's post is far from gay. For Lauren, this is her 5th time being on reality tv. If she was serious about her career, she would understand that people on reality tv don't have much respect in the real job market.
And iloveben, if you read carefully, none of your post really reacts to the body of ephemerelle's post. you go on some rant about comparing kristin's success on reality tv to lauren's, when ephemerelle never compared their reality tv success... so I think you have anger issues. you read what you want to see... and you make bigotted remarks which is ten times worse. congratulations
I just don't understand why some Kristin fans have to bring her up and say Lauren NEEDS her for her show! Lauren had over 3 MILLION viewers. she definitely does not need Kristin
Well, I just saw the commercial for the Hills, and they definitely use scenes of Brody in an ADVERTISEMENT for the show. For those of you who do not know how advertisements are constructed, marketers use tactics that will easily catch someone's eye and make a person fascinated or impatiently wait to see/get some sort of product.
Anyone who wants to deny that they don't need to tie the show back to Kristin as a form of advertisement is just naive--you must know nothing about how marketing and public relations work. People can say Lauren has enough fans, people love her, she alone draws enough attention to the show, but this is a very idealistic and simplistic way of looking at it. Lauren is not enough to advertisers and MTV. The commercial could have shown Stephen, or Jason, and pulled in more LB watchers--or they could have shown Audrina and Whitney, and satisfied Hill watchers. But they went with Brody Jenner. And if we evaluate Brody Jenner, he really isn't known for doing anything! The only reason people know his name is because he had a long relationship with Kristin Cavallari and the words "Kristin and Brody" got imbedded in people's heads from blogs and US Weekly. If he never dated kristin, they wouldn't show him in the commercial. They would show Stephen or Jason. But Brody IS known as the guy who dated Kristin for a while. And Kristin is the girl who made LB 2 so irresistible whether you loved her or hated her... that season had higher ratings than all the other LBs and its spin offs. Kristin has a lot of clout with MTV. So conveniently, when Brody is seen with Lauren, of ALL PEOPLE, a year late, MTV's not going to ignore that!
Everyone wants to know about this Brody-Lauren issue because Brody dated Kristin, and of all the BILLION men in the world to chose from, Lauren starts hanging out with. MTV is not going to ignore that! But people who want to ignore this tactic of advertisement and say that The Hills/MTV executives do not need to advertise the ex-Mr. Cavallari in a Hills commercial does not understand the most basic aspects of PR and marketing.
clearly they don't *need* to use those tactics to get an audience, since the hills did just fine last season.
however, if they're looking to increase the number of viewers, then they'll want to appeal to people who don't already watch the show. so who would be interested in that sort of show but not already watch it? maybe kristin fans. thus, as a strategy, it certainly makes sense.
I read here a lot and never reply because usually it's just a bunch of stupid stuff not worth replying to, but I am replying now because finally I see something that sent me over the edge and either I scream and rip out my hair, ahahaha, or say something!
First of all, I agree with Intellect that MTV and advertisers would use Brody in the commercials, and they HAVE! There's physical evidence so why are people in denial about this? MTV would love to re-ignite the Lauren hates Kristin, Kristin hates Lauren storyline because obviously, this site is a testament that people are passionate about it!
But understand that doesn't mean that just because they use Kristin's ex in a commercial means Intellect is trying to say Lauren isn't interesting enough. Of course Lauren already brings a strong following, no doubt. But it's not about JUST that. Brody was Kristin's man. Everybody knew that. Who doesn't want to know what happened between Lauren and Brody? MTV will use this storyline to help sustain old and reel in new interest for this season. It's the same concept of Coke being the no. 1 drink brand worldwide. That doesn't mean they should stop advertising. They advertise EVEN more and that rotational advertisement is what keeps them on top. If people can not understand this, because it is such a simple thing to understand people, then I am just baffled!
I am also just baffled that people worship Lauren so much that they would deny advertisting techniques and their intention to solicit viewer interest by relating the show back to the Lauren - Kristin drama! Gosh. It's not a diss on Lauren. It's an analysis of marketing. Sheesh! Get that through your heads you all! Well some of. The militant Lauren fans. LOL
THE FACTS: 1. Both girls have strong fan bases 2. Both girls are attractive 3. Both girls have enjoyed certain successes following LB 4. Both girls receive a good amount of attention from the media 5. Both girls are young reality tv stars who seem to be having fun living the 'Hollywood' lifestyle
The media LOVES any story that involves conflict or confrontation, so any chance to link LC and Kristin in any way is a obvious tactic to incite reader or viewer interest (e.g. see post below this one).
It's just sad that anyone should fight over these two - who is better, who is prettier, who is more popular, etc. - when they are actually VERY similar in the ways mentioned above. Some of you sound like immature, petty, bickering, PMS-ing girls! Not cool!
p.s. MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY HOLIDAYS...to both Kristin AND LC fans. ;)
ya they probably did that for season 1... i just know that in the season finale of s3, the letter that breanna wrote to Rocky said "when i saw the episode of us" so thats why I assumed that they don't finish taping before they air. but then again that was the season finale so they could have just taped stuff for the season finale.
don't you think it's kinda weird that teen vogue allowed lauren to come back? I mean, to even hire her in the first place. i mean let's be honest, she admitted that she has no writing experience. if she's really interested in fashion she should have interned in a design studio or showroom, like i did. right now, i'm interning at the nanette lepore showroom in new york city.

then can you explain to me how kristin was not used in advertising at ALL for season 1 of the hills and lauren had over 3 million viewers?
that season had higher ratings than all the other LBs and its spin offs.
I've heard the hills was the highest-rated show ever on mtv, so explain to me how LB season 2 had higher ratings than its spinoffs? hahahahah

MTV UPDATED... go to mtv.com to see the updated hills profile :)

They're probably going to continue taping... laguna does that too where even after the episodes start airing, they continue to tape the kids.
ya they probably did that for season 1... i just know that in the season finale of s3, the letter that breanna wrote to Rocky said "when i saw the episode of us" so thats why I assumed that they don't finish taping before they air. but then again that was the season finale so they could have just taped stuff for the season finale.
