Wednesday Feb 28 20:35 AEDT
Black Eyed Peas frontwoman Fergie will make her first trip to Australia in more than three years to host the MTV Australian Video Music Awards.
Fergie, aka Stacy Ann Ferguson, first rose to fame after joining the energetic three-time Grammy award-winning hip-hop act in 2003.
Since then the American band's hits, including Where Is The Love?, Let's Get It Started, Shut Up, Hey Mamma, Pump It and My Humps, have kept fans grooving across the globe and rewarded them with more than 20 million singles and record sales worldwide.
The group last visited Australia in 2004 to present an award at the annual ARIA awards and to promote their 2005 album Monkey Business.
Also an actor and songwriter, Fergie embarked on a solo career in September last year releasing The Dutchess album.
While the eccentric Californian-born singer maintains going solo doesn't hail the demise of the Black Eyed Peas, the star has had huge success with her singles London Bridge and Fergalicious.
The 31-year-old performer will be joined at the April 29 MTV Australian Video Music Awards by a bevy of international acts including Hollywood actor turned musician Jared Leto with his band 30 Seconds To Mars.
"It's pretty amazing," said Leto, 35, of coming to Australia for the awards.
"We are really looking forward to it. It's an exciting time to come down and perform."
Kirstin Cavallari of popular US reality series Laguna Beach will also dazzle the red carpet, along with a host of local talent and nominees.Leading the charge for MTV Australia gongs is Sexy Back singer Justin Timberlake who dominates with six nominations, while America's punk/rock superstar Pink follows with five nominations.
Stand-out local artists Eskimo Joe and Wolfmother will go head-to-head for best group, while Adelaide hip-hop masters Hilltop Hoods sit alongside Eminem and Snoop Dogg in the best hip-hop video category.
Voting for the awards can be done via the Australian MTV website or through mobile phone SMS.
Music lovers can cast their vote from March 1, with lines closing April 28.
Winners will be announced at the official MTV Australian Video Music Awards ceremony held at Sydney's Acer Arena April 29
