Show picked up for third season
MTV's docu-soap "The Hills" ended its second season just last week, but fans won't have to wait too long to catch up with Lauren, Heidi and the rest of the privileged kids on the show.
The cable network has greenlit a third season of the show for a summer premiere, which will presumably show viewers the fallout from Heidi Montag moving out of the apartment she shared with Lauren Conrad and in with boyfriend Spencer Pratt.
"The success of 'The Hills' second season illustrates our strategy to engage viewers across all screens and to give fans the ability to stay connected to the cast and their stories when they want and where they want," says Lois Curren, head of entertainment and programming at MTV. "The approach we've taken with 'The Hills' re-affirms that our audience is embracing the touchpoints we've created for them to stay immersed in the shows they love."
As it does with most of its shows, MTV has created extensive online content for "The Hills," including an online-only "After Show" that lets viewers see more of the cast and a virtual world that mirrors that of the show.
The network says "Hills"-related content on MTV.com generated close to 18 million streams over the course of the season. The series was also the top-rated show in its Monday timeslot with MTV's core audience of teenagers and adults under 25.
Niice. This show is easily my guilty pleasure. MTV really hit gold with the Hills.
Wonder if Whitney will be a part of the show? With her graduating and possibly persuing a career outside of LA, it's going to be hard to keep her on board. I really started to like her this season.
