Saturday, October 13, 2007 || Laguna Beach's UK spin off: Living On The Edge
If you've never watched MTV's "reality show" Laguna Beach and it's susbsequent spin-off The Hills, then you're definitely a more culturally enriched person than me.
Briefly, MTV follow around a group of spoilt, self-centred high school seniors for a year, following their every trial ("I like can't believe Jason made out with Lauren in the hottub and then took Kirsten to the Winter Formal"), and tribulation ("OMG! Fred Segal have sold out of the Marc Jacobs Stam bag").
These shows are essentially a chance for you to spend half an hour being blinded by their dental work, marvelling at their vacuous exsitence while feeling morally superior and totally smart.
Now MTV UK present to you Living On The Edge, a show set in Alderley Edge, which trails ten spoilt brats and attempts to show "the stress and struggles as they prepare for their exams; the sequins and the fake tans as they celebrate on nights out and the secrets and gossip that are revealed as the cameras never stop rolling."
Best of all Alderley Edge is in Chesire which is apparently the WAG capital of the UK. ARGH! All the stilted, badly staged conversation of teenagers set, not on the white beaches of Orange County, but down some grotty pub down the High Street!
While the alums of The Hills and Laguna Beach have parlayed their reality show status into internships at Vogue, bit parts in movies, clothing lines, make-up endorsements, DUIs, catfights in all the tabs and a permanent skip the queue card at LA hotspots like Hyde, you can't help but think the best these Chesire kids can hope for is a 'What the hell are they wearing?' in HEAT.
Tune in this Sunday 14th October at 8pm on MTV. Let the games begin!

I also live in England and have seen the adverts on MTV it looks awful. There is no way that it can compare to Laguna Beach. The people on living on the edge have such boring accents and from what ive seen from the first episode on mtv UK it looks so boring and repetetive! They also wear really bad clothes and think theyre gorgeous!
hey i watched the 1st episode and i actually faught it was really good coming from manchester myself i can defo realate dont knock it till uve tried it i say but lagua is good dont get me wrong!! x

lol.. I like all your guys/girls reviews from England. Nothing will ever compare to LB.
I'm from England and I can't wait to see it, but I reckon it won't be as good as LB.
