Look, we gossers are gaga over The Hills, really, so please forgive this unofficial special column informally put together as a nail-clawing tribute to the boob-tube treat. ‘Cause, ya see, it also appears Whitney P really is the brightest blondie-babe o’ the bunch. At least that’s what we think after asking what issues she’s most concerned about in the upcoming election: “I think the two main ones right now are obviously the abortion rights, and I think it’s really important that women have the rights that they deserve,” Whit answered, as if she weren’t a member of her own sex, but whatev.

“And health insurance is also a big thing right now,” Whit-hon continued, like a beacon of scarlet wisdom in her vibrant frock and high heels. “I think all citizens of the United States, no matter who they are, should have equal rights to it.”
Whitney for Ms. America!

Lauren’s answer to the same query was less articulate: “Honestly, I haven’t done all my research yet,” she fessed. “I’ve been so busy, but I’m going to get to it.”

You do that, g-f.
Hillary ClintonWhitney also went all "gal power" when asked if she thought we’re ready for a female prez. “I’m not gonna say whether Hillary Clinton is the one for the job," she replied, "but I think a woman is just as capable as a man.”

Again, Lauren’s answer was lacking. “I think it would be so awesome,” she offered. How deep! We decided to switch gears and talk about something the girls are more familiar with: their show.

“It’s not a job, but it makes our lives a little more hectic,” Lauren said, when asked if making their big-ass, semistaged hit series was actually (gasp!) work. “We have to get miked, then we go and film. It’s almost like second nature. I know if I’m walking into a room to kind of walk slowly so they can reposition the camera. We’re kinda trained to do it that way.”

And we had to ask Whitney if she’s sick of being portrayed as the squeaky-clean good girl, 'cause we’ve heard she doesn’t always keep her nose so polished off camera.

“I have no complaints about being portrayed as the good girl,” she said. “It’s better than being portrayed as the bad girl, but I can have fun, too.”

wow lauren, you havent done your research yet? you think it would be awesome? maybe she should go to a real college and not fashion school, theses are huge issues in our contemporary society!

oh please, you should say that to half the whole population then.

oh please? as ignorant as most of our society is, if you're a celebrity you have more power and more wealth to do something about the issues in our society.

Oh, Lauren. She really should pay some attention to what is going on in the world...being busy is a lame excuse to not have anything to say.

I know she's probably no worse than half the population and I never got that she was particularly smart, but I'd think she'd at least be able to say something. I mean, does she at least realize there's a war going on? Global warming? Surely she could have come up with something!

She also said this but they didn't include it in the article.

"I think it would be really controversial and hard for people to get over. I feel like in L.A., we're a lot more open to ideas than in Middle America."
—Lauren Conrad's deep thoughts on how the country would be diff if a female were prez

wow oh my god, lauren probably knows absolutely nothing on the middle east, that is, along with the article, proof of how ignorant lauren is

Sooo just because she doesn't know about politics she's stupid? I'm not interested in politics whatsoever and I have no idea about any of it. I think it's boring. I guess I'm dumb, too.

At October 03, 2007 11:03 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

well than you're ignorant just like her

At October 03, 2007 11:23 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

1. Even if the "half the whole population" is ignorant, that's not a valid excuse or rebuttal. It doesn't make them right and it doesn't make her right.
2. Ignorance does not equal stupidity. So, no, saying someone is ignorant is not saying that they're dumb.
3. There is really no excuse for not being aware of the issues in the world around you. If you're "too busy," it really just means that you don't care enough to take the time to read the paper or watch the news.

Lauren's young, so hopefully she'll realize that stuff like this is important. Not to mention that lots of girls look up to her; she should set an example by being informed and aware.

This does NOT mean that she is any less talented, beautiful, or whatever. I like Lauren, but I don't just blindly defend everything she does -- that's just silly. No one's perfect and some people here need to realize that.

At October 03, 2007 11:57 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I agree with you completely. Everyone in our society should take the time to read the newspaper, watch the news, etc. to know what is going on in the world. And as a celebrity, Lauren has the ability to make a real difference - and not just in the fashion world. Now, not every celebrity is Angelina Jolie but everyone, including Lauren, should have at least some basic knowledge concerning the issues that transpire throughout our society - global warming, health insurance, the Iraqi War, etc. Therefore, not being able to do "all your reseach yet" because you're "so busy" is abolutely no excuse.

I actually prefer celebrities to keep quiet about their political views. far too many of them use their fame as a platform to spout off about some issue they barely understand anyway. besides, most of them are dumb enough that a cursory reading of the newspaper twice a week isn't going to help them make a well-informed decision on election day anyway.

call me cynical or elitist, but I haven't seen many people on mtv who I'd want deciding the future of this country.

At October 04, 2007 1:12 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I'm with Allie on this one. I think it's great for celebs to encourage everyone to get out and vote but that's where it should end. I also don't think Lauren is the slightest bit stupid - I just think she doesn't wants to alienate anyone by stating her particuliar views. Pretty smart move actually : )

At October 04, 2007 1:17 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Well I don't agree with Whitney views, but it was smart of her to not totally alienate anyone. They both you amazing as aways.

At October 04, 2007 10:06 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

she didn't express her political views because she doesn't know anything that is going on in our society, that is completely different than not wanting or choosing to express them... you dont need to kiss laurens ass all the time, you can admit when she looks like an idiot

At October 04, 2007 10:10 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

yeah, she didn't say she chose not to comment because she didn't prefer to state her political views she flat out admitted she doesn't know what is going on.
you can't spin this around and praise lauren for being "so smart" on this one, it only proves her ignorance

At October 04, 2007 11:25 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

She's dumb as dirt, face it. It shows in all her decisions as well.

At October 04, 2007 11:35 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Lauren's not dumb but she's a Republican and these days it's pretty smjart to keep that to yourself LOL

If you are going to ANY character on the Hills for commentary on World News, then you'll get similar answers. Show me 1 character on this show that would do any better in this interview. To call her ignorant is ignorant!
I'm sure Heidi, Spencer, Brody, Jenn etc would come across exactly the same. If you are interested in World News views, go to another magazine or TV channel!!

people are taking this article way too seriously. geez im sure she read this and thought that she should brush up on her politics. it shouldnt be an article where it allows people to bash on lauren for not knowing "whats going on"

At October 04, 2007 1:30 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

Whitney looks really bad. Not in this pic but, if you go and find the article you will see what i mean. They did a closeup shoot of her. She has soooooooo many wrinkles. Wow, she is gonna need botox soon.

At October 04, 2007 1:33 PM, Blogger allie said...

botox? jesus, some of you guys are ridiculous.

people do naturally have some creases, laugh lines, whatever, on their face. you shouldn't have to paralyze your face into an expressionless-mask to make sure it's completely crease-free.

At October 04, 2007 2:08 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

^you must not have seen the pictures hun. why don't you educate yourself before you start name calling like a child. ok, allie!!!!

At October 04, 2007 2:37 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

um she didn't call anyone a name "hun" she just said you were being ridiculous which you are. Whitney is in her 20's, she's a young beautiful girl and botox is the last thing she should do. Have you seen what Btox does to people's faces over time? It's not a pretty sight. Just look at Terri Hatcher or Nicolettte Sheridan, they both used to be really pretty women and now they just look scary. if you want further proof - go look at a photo of Joan Rivers!!!!!

Had Heidi made these comments, you know everyone would be bashing her and rightfully so.

Honestly, I don’t think Lauren really cares about national/world events because she’s too wrapped up in her own little world of partying, boys, and clothes.

I was a little offended that she implied that it would be hard for Middle America to get over a woman president and it just makes me wonder if she even realizes that Hillary’s currently most likely to win. Over 90% of Americans have said they would vote for a female president and a woman ran for US vice-president over 20 years ago - not really controversial, even to us hillbillies here in flyover country.

Now I don’t think she’s dumb (although I wouldn’t say she’s particularly bright), but she does seem quite out of touch. Anyway, hopefully it’s a bit of a wake-up call for Lauren and maybe she’ll actually pick up a Newsweek instead of US Weekly every once in awhile.

... perhaps you need to review the definition of the word "irony" :)

for example, whining about someone name-calling and then doing it yourself.

It's obvious to me that the obsessede Kristin fans (all 2 of them) are getting even for the negative comments made about her and see this as their chance to "try" to discredit Lauren. Personally I don't think the media has any right to butt into celebrity thoughts to voice opinions about politics.

Politics like the Bible needs to be a private matter and I have no problem with Lauren not answering the question. To be hones when I was 21 not that long ago I don't remember giving a wholelot of thought to political issues either. I do now but during those times I was like all 21 year olds trying to make my way through life and being self absorbed. Self absorbtion in most young people eventually fade.

Lauren haters just settle down LOL You are not going to discredit this lovely girl because she is young. Come to think about it I don't think anyone has asked Kristin her political views. Somehow I don't think her answer would be much different if she didn't have advance notice to think about it.

Get over it LC haters:>)

im not a lauren hater, i like lauren. this has nothing do with with any hatred i have for lauren - but what this does have to do with is her not knowing what is going on in our society. people are trying to twist this into her saying she doesn't want to talk about politics (which i would completely understand if that was the case) but she said she "hasn't done her research yet" ... come on people, try to look at this objectively, just because you like lauren doesn't mean you have to worship everything she says and does

At October 05, 2007 11:27 AM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

I certainly don't "worship" any celebrity. LOL But I just happen to think that if a 21 year old is not completely caught up in politics then it's no big deal and people are making way too much out of it. I agree with the other poster that rag mags have no business asking any celebrity what their political views are. Personally I don't care what celebrities view points are. I make my own decisions and not go by what someone popular is saying.

It makes no difference to me what Lauren said because her views are not important to me. I watch her because I enjoyed Laguna Beach and"the Hills" Not for her political views. When I want political views I will watch the debates and read and decide on my own. Honestly you people are making way too much of this. She's a 21 year old reality tv star LOL. Get real about it okay?

At October 05, 2007 2:45 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

The fact of the matter is that we don't know much about these Presidential candidates yet because they have yet to really start their hard campaigning. So MOST people at this point need to do more research on the candidates before they decide if the candidate would make a good President. I find it insulting that an E reporter has the nerve to question someone's intelligence when they work for E! (ENTERTAINMENT CHANNEL).

At October 05, 2007 3:34 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

^ very well said.

I heard a news channellast night say that the campaign this and next year could be the ugliest we have ever seen. Now that scares me since most election years are painful to watch I can't believe it could get worse.

The fighting and slurs get me to the point I stop listening.

Is it any wonder the young voters don't want any part of it.

Politics are dirty and nasty and so often the platforms of the candidates are blocked out by the fighting that you as a voter no longer understand what the candidates stand for. So yeah lets have the "entertainment" mags ask the young reality stars their view points lol

At October 05, 2007 3:42 PM, Anonymous Anonymous said...

To be fair, they asked what issues were important to them, not who they are supporting. Its a very different question - I have no idea who I'm voting for yet, but I do know what I care about.

Not only is Lauren bland as hell, but she's clearly quite ignorant and her lack of articulation does indicate she's slightly lacking in the brains department.
Oh well, all she really needs to do is do her hair nicely and talk about omg clothes!

yeah shes 21 not an old fart like you are, trying to psuedo psycho analyze a young woman who is still out having fun. Don't worry maybe when she gets old like you she can become a bitter ol crone too. I doubt it though since she seems to have a fun and good life. Too bad you didn't hun maybe you wouldn't be so harsh on the young pretty girls.

I wish you obsessed Kristin fans would go back to LL.

Lauren Rocks!
