Audrina Patridge, 22, who stars on "The Hills" and is Lauren Conrad's roommate, participated in an e-mail interview the Detroit Free Press. While she declined to address our questions on ex-boyfriend Justin "Bobby" Brescia and didn't want to comment on the ongoing feud between Lauren and former roommate Heidi Montag, Audrina did dish on what it's like to watch herself, the scene she wished made it to television and what she wants to do for the rest of her life.
QUESTION: Viewership of The Hills this season is higher than ever. What do you think it is about this third season that appeals so much to viewers?
ANSWER: This season I think the viewers feel a connection with us. Third season is more interesting because there is definitely more going on and more relatable situations as we are all maturing. People watch and can relate and learn from our mistakes.
Q: What is it like to see your life condensed on television? What was your reaction when you first saw yourself on The Hills? Are there times you wish your life was lived like how people witness it on TV, where you can skip mundane parts like bad L.A. traffic?
A: It is honestly a bit weird seeing my life condensed on TV!!! I watch it and notice things I do that I don't realize! And reliving certain situations is not always fun. When I first saw myself on show I was definitely my own worst critic!
Q: In response to accusations this season that The Hills are fake, you've said that your lives as portrayed on the show are real. Is everything you say and do on the show truly spontaneous? And after three seasons, how conscious are you that cameras are following you?
A: It's hard to be spontaneous while filming because you can't just say we're going to Vegas and head out right away.... they have to get cameras and crews ready etc. As far as what we say, that's spontaneous!!!! I've watched myself on an episode and thought what was I thinking when I said that!!!!! I need to think before I speak sometimes. I'm conscious of cameras although sometimes you get caught up in a moment and forget.
Q: Is there anything about this season that you wished the cameras hadn't captured? Anything you wished the cameras had captured or anything you wish had made the show but got cut? Anything you wish people knew about you that isn't portrayed on the show?
A: This season I'm pretty happy w/ what the cameras captured because I'll have what I was going through at this time in my life on a DVD...it's sort of a video diary. There is one scene that didn't make the show that I wish did!!! I'm allergic to Lauren's cat, Ashes, so I went to allergist which they filmed doing needle test on my back and the doctor said to take the cat for a haircut/shave to get rid of dander..so my sister and I took Ashes and got him shaved like a lion, it was hilarious!! Lauren wasn't happy at first but ended up loving it. There is a lot I wish people could see more of but it would make the show way too long.
Q: How has being on The Hills changed your life? Are you coming to a point where you have to kind of separate your growing celebrity with your personal life, and if so, in what way?
A: Since The Hills I have had many opportunities and have met so many great people, it's definitely one experience I'll never forget. I'm very grounded and family oriented so I always go back to Orange County and hang with my friends and family there.....some things just need to be private for my own sanity.
Q: What exactly is your job title right now with Epic Records? What do you do for them?
A: I'm a receptionist and sometimes they send me out to go on A&R (Artists and Repertoire) scouts.
Q: In the show it seems like you guys are always going out almost every night, to Opera or Area or another club. How often do you really go out?
A: It looks like we go out a lot on show but there's more to our lives than just what you see on the show. Because it's only a half-hour show, they try to stick with what's exciting or what makes sense. I tend to go out depending on what's going on or what mood I'm in. It's never planned off camera. If I get an idea of going to a comedy show I'll do it. Or if I just want to go out have fun and dance I'll call some of my promoter friends and go to their club.
Q: What are you hoping to do with your career? In the first season, you said you were hoping to model/act. Is that still true, and if so, where do you stand with all of that?
A: My dream is still to become an actress and actually do a scripted show or movie!....It's hard to focus on that while filming The Hills and dealing with day-to-day drama that comes to relationships and everything else...although I am doing what I can while not filming and eventually, one day it will happen :) As far as modeling I'm still doing shoots....modeling is a form of acting and it's more of a challenge which I am always up for!
