Despite reports, Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port weren't given the pink slip by Teen Vogue.
"I just thought it was time for them to try something new," Editor-In-Chief Amy Astley told Usmagazine.com at the Ralph Lauren fall fashion show this morning. "An internship is a short thing, and I just felt it was time for them to move on a little bit."
Women's Wear Daily had reported the magazine decided to part ways with the MTV reality show because of the girls' wild lifestyles of clubbing, making out and feuding.
"I think that’s really why Teen Vogue had had their moment with them -- it went into another zone," their boss, editor Lisa Love, told Us.
Asked if the show is scripted, Love replied, "I think why they say all that is because there’s so much editing.
"They shoot reality and somehow it’s changed in the editing room to appeal to things, I don’t know," she said. "I’ve never watched the show.
"They were great interns in the beginning," Love added of Conrad and Port, "and then it’s time for interns to go some place else, right?"
Seems like Conrad has already moved on. She recently unveiled her new clothing line, the Lauren Conrad Collection.
What does Love think of her designs?
"I think it’s more T-shirt kind of things and jeans, very simple basics."
Still, she said the duds could "possibly" be featured in a larger facet in the magazine.

"They were great interns...in the beginning"
On Lauren's clothing line: "I think it’s more T-shirt kind of things"
OUCH! Tell us what you really think Lisa! I guess there's no love lost there.
since when do you want interns to move on after putting all that time and effort into grooming them for something more...? their comments were pure bitchiness!
Who's laughing last?? I'll tell you who: LAUREN!
Her own clothing line, MTV's highest rated show, a $2.5 million dollar home, tons of $$, lots of friends and fans, endorsements, a gorgeous face and body...shall I go on??
^Could not have said it better!
I'm sure Vogue editors everywhere are crying themselves to sleep because of Lauren's tacky plain t-shirt line and her MTV sponsored life.
^---Yeah okay, you haven't even SEEN her line if you think it's all "plain t-shirts." You just sound bitter and jealous that YOU are some no-talent hack with nothing better to do than trash someone you don't even know...
whoever would have thought uptight balding lisa love would talk smack? talk about classless!!
So LC fans hate Lisa Love now? How do you deal with hating so many people?
Wow, that was harsh! But unfortunately kind of true. I think Lauren's a nice girl and has many good qualities, but truthfully she wasn't the most deserving intern and her designs are very simple basics (and Lisa Love was even giving her too much credit with the jeans - she only has leggings!)
Plus I don't blame them for wanting to distance themselves since the show's focus has changed so much. Which is fine with me - I don't need fake jobs anyway. Bring on the drunkeness, shallow conversations, and boys! Just no more fake relationships please!
OUCH!!!!!!! Wow, that was very biting and slappy.
Lauren fans, don't go all and picket at the Teen Vogue offices ok. Everyone's entitled to their opinions.
Haha I love that she said that.
not all was bitchy. LIsa did say there might be a place for Laurens clothes in the magazine.
She would be an idiot if she didn't feature them. LC is very popular among the teens and I have a feeling if only for a little while the sales for teen vogue will decline without LC and WHitney to promote the mag. JMO.
"and then it’s time for interns to go some place else, right?"
LMAO! That was definitely very insulting. All companies want to keep their interns if they did a good job.
I think Lauren's image became too pedestrian and cheap for Teen Vogue. Anything that has to do with the "Vogue" brand is chic and classy.
Lauren can maybe intern for Tigerbeat now.
LOL sounds like she doesn't think too highly of Lauren or her designs
Tigerbeat! Bwahaha
the full article started out with that they WERE NOT FIRED so the LC haters need to go back and read the whole article and not just pick what they want from it.
Whitney is boring anyway and adds very little to nothing to the show.
Lauren is basically the luckiest person in the planet..she is completely average in every way, but has been given amazing opportunities. I can't be mad at her for making the most of it while she still can.
but lol at lisa love's comments...she never really seemed like she liked lauren..
"so LC fans hate Lisa Love now?"
um i think most of the coments were that her words were harsh or bitchy - which they were - no one brought the word hate into the conversation but YOU...
I get the feeling that a lot of magazine editors aren't the friendliest of people... I can understand Lisa wanting to have nothing to do with the show but to badmouth Lauren/Whitney is extremely unprofessional and classless. Most professional people would know better than to do that. But I think Whit and Lauren are above interning, they have done their fair share and need to move on to bigger and better things!
That was too funny. You could tell ever since Lauren chose Jason over Paris, Lisa Love pretty much thought Lauren was an idiot and lost all respect for her, just as everyone did.
Every successful desginer, Lauren included, will draw praise and criticism. Better to have Lisa Love talk about you than not. That means you've made it! So Lauren should take it as a compliment that EVERYONE is talking about her and her line. Good for her!
^ hahahaha, seriously?
That's the same line of thinking that causes Heidi to think that it's great people are commenting on her video.
"lost all respect for her, just as everyone did"
everyone? oh please!! not hardly. There are many of us who have always liked lauren and will continue to like and support her. Why does there always have to be a Lauren or Kristin bashing on this board. For those of us who like both girls it's crazy annoying!!
Does anyone here actually think it was the right decision to chose Jason over Paris? THAT'S RIGHT, NOONE DOES!!!!!! Ergo, everyone lost respect for her.
why does everyone keep bringing up Paris? It was all a contrived storyline.
The only reason she went to Paris later on was because MTV decided it would be a nice venue/storyline to shoot. Lauren the intern is finally going to Paris!
Who cares about Paris when she's got her own line here in the U.S.?
She's getting so much coverage. Her line will probably sell out like her last one did. Great for Lauren!!
I don't think very many people in the fashion industry think very highly of Lauren.
^ I completely agree.
^I agree, too. I just saw a fashion website where Lauren was a guest editor (WhoWhatWearDaily) and man, people were really upset that she was being featured. As someone who likes Lauren's style but doesn't quite get all the hubbub, I thought most comments were way harsh.
But I can't deny that I haven't been impressed with her line. Abercrombie and Fitch can do pretty well selling grubby t-shirts for $40-50...doesn't mean that fashionistas have a lot of respect for their clothing.
And really her line wouldn't bother me if it wasn't so over-priced...make it more like American Apparel (which many still consider overpriced) and I might have a different opinion. I still wouldn't consider it very original, but everyone can use some cute basics and I definetely think there's a place for that....just not at these prices.
^ I agree. American Apparel and also J.Crew makes the same stuff she does for reasonable prices.
But I think the main reason why Paris is being brought up again is because the Lauren fans are going bananas and calling Lisa Love's head. Just because Lisa feels the way she does, you all shouldn't start hating on her.
Remember, that was a very good opportunity that was offered to Lauren which she probably didn't even deserve at that time as an intern.
For her to turn it down was a piss poor decision. And Lisa thought she was an idiot. If you say you love everything about fashion, why would you turn down the opportunity to go to Paris?
Lauren fans, please turn down your shouting voices for a bit and see why Lisa would have this attitude towards Lauren.
NOONE can justify choosing a druggie racist over a chance to pursue your career. PERIOD!
"Does anyone here actually think it was the right decision to chose Jason over Paris? THAT'S RIGHT, NOONE DOES!!!!!! Ergo, everyone lost respect for her."
Did I agree w/ her decision? No. Did it cause me to lose respect for her? No. Life would be pretty damn boring if I just spent my time judging other people...
^IA Everyone knows the job was given to her (LC) by MTV connections so I don't think the offer to go to paris was "real" anyway. It was just to add drama. Whitney was a real intern and wasn't she just given the promotion last season? I thought she was no longer an intern but a bona fide employee. Remember her going to NY and interviewing? Whitney is not a regular at the bars like LC so I wonder what the deal with her is.
She is boring and I didn't see anything on film that she was a outstanding employee so I think she just plain ol got fired.
Regardless of what Lisa Love thought of Lauren and Whit, I think her comments reflect badly on the "classy" aspect Vogue strives for.
In unrelated news but interesting news they hired Stacy Farber (Ellie from Degrassi Next Generation) as an intern!
