Tuesday, August 19, 2008 || Lauren Conrad: 'The End Has Come'
Whether you equate it with "Sex and the City," "A Tale of Two Cities" or the end of civilization as we know it, there is no denying that "The Hills" is reality TV at its finest. There has never been another program so equally loved and loathed by the American public, and this is one guy who has been hopelessly devoted since day one. We're talking "Laguna Beach" here.
I was there for Lauren Conrad's first voice-over, was way too involved with her Stephen/Kristin love triangle and learned that a casual glance could speak volumes of teen angst. So I was totes stoked when I got to interview the one and only Lauren for the new and final - she says so - season of "The Hills," which starts tonight. But the only thing more exciting than anticipation leading up to our chat was discovering just how candidly Lauren was willing to speak about the show, her life and how the two constantly clash. Pop Wrap: Congrats on being asked to present at the Emmys and design the trophy girls' dresses! Lauren Conrad: Thanks! They said they've never done that before. I was a little surprised. I didn't even think they'd let me go, so the fact that I'm presenting and designing is pretty amazing. PW: And transitioning into a full-fledged fashion designer is ultimately the plan, right? Lauren: I mean, obviously. It would be so great, right now the biggest struggle we have with the line is time. I spend most of my weekends on it and if I'm only filming half a day or have a whole day off, that time goes to designing. It would be nice to have a little more time to do it. PW: How much time does filming take out of your life? Lauren: Average about four days a week - we're supposed to get a little break, but between seasons one and two they gave us a few weeks off and I broke up with my boyfriend [Jason Wahler] and it was a huge thing. So now they don't. PW: So when was the last time you had four walls all to yourself? Lauren: This morning! It's not "The Truman Show." The cameras aren't there all the time. PW: Is it still weird for you to go from filming "The Hills" to filming on actual sets, like for your AT&T commercial? Lauren: That's pretty new for me, things like that. A commercial is so much different. That AT&T one, for example, I had one line and I really struggled because I had to say it exactly the same over and over and I kept messing up. I'm not used to it, for me, I stress out. I over think it because I'm not good at memorizing. PW: So is that your defense when people accuse "The Hills" of being scripted? Lauren: Yea, I can't act. I'm awful. I actually took an acting class when I first moved to LA because I was getting all these offers and so I took an acting class for two-three months and I was so bad. Any person who took that class with me will tell you how awful I was. It was almost a joke when I would go on stage, but they were all really cool about it - not mean.

I will be sad to see it go but I think it has run it's course.
I blame Heidi and Spencer for ruining the Hills. They made the show fake.
