Lauren Conrad puts on a different show in the O.C.
Lauren Conrad returned to the O.C. - if only for a few hours Monday night at the Irvine Spectrum Center, where an estimated crowd of 2,500 came to watch the MTV starlet and budding fashion designer put on a runway show.
With her family and friends sitting front row – including Lo Bosworth (her roommate on "The Hills"), parents, brother, two grandmothers and an uncle visiting from New Zealand – Conrad kicked off the start of Style Week Orange County.
This might not have been the first time Conrad presented a fashion show – her clothing line debuted last year at L.A. Fashion Week before industry folks and media. But this time, the runway show was open to the public, and Conrad unveiled her new holiday collection of mostly flirty minidresses.
"This is so much more exciting than the show she did in L.A.," said Conrad's grandmother, Mary Lawrence. "It just feels more glamorous and the spotlight is just on her. I just wish I were young enough to wear her designs."
The playful looks from Conrad's holiday collection consisted of ruffled mini-dresses with sweetheart necklines, tube tops tucked into high-waisted skirts and one-shouldered cocktail dresses. Conrad stuck to a palette of mostly solid hues like yellow, red, navy, black and white, but there was also one colorful block print fabric.
Conrad said the theme for her holiday collection was "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and each was named after famous female pop stars, so there was the "Britney" - a strapless white dress Conrad happened to don at the event - and other dresses like the "Christina" and the "Blondie." Conrad's debut collection last year featured pieces named after her girlfriends, like the "Whitney" and the "Audrina."
"The clothes were really, really cute," said Lorraine Chow, 19, of Irvine. "I thought it was really cool that Lauren Conrad would do a show out here and not just in Hollywood."
Chow's friend, Vy Tran, agreed. "I would buy all of the clothes if I could afford it," said Tran, 19, of Irvine. "Especially the blue, one-shouldered dress."
At the end of the show, Conrad came out, looking like an uptown prom princess in the strapless white frock cinched with a slender black bow, and some serious 5-inch, black patent peep-toe pumps. Her father, Jim Conrad, presented his famous daughter with two bouquets as she made her way down the runway.
"We parents live for this stuff," Jim Conrad said, beaming. "I've been to every one of her fashion shows and every season is better than before. She's really growing as a designer and we're really happy to see the crowd here tonight."
After the show, Conrad fielded questions from the press. The tanned star revealed that her favorite places to shop in Orange County included boutiques in Corona del Mar like Erica Dee, as well as Fashion Island, Irvine Spectrum and South Coast Plaza. She also said that she wears all of her clothing on episodes of "The Hills."
"I'm from O.C., so there will always be a little bit of that (reflected) in my clothing (collection)," said Conrad.

Although I hate Lo's character in the Hills... she's a classic beauty.. not skinny..just slim... nice face to look at...doesn't need a whole lot of makeup.
yeah but isn't she super short? and always looks like she's got really bad acne.
i used to think she was a classic socal beauty on laguna beach but now she looks dried up and old
shes not short shes like 5'5 and she doesnt have any acne
I personally wouldn't say she's a classic beauty (something about her face seems a little off - I think her eyes are set a little too close), but she's cute enough IMO. I've never noticed any acne.
I do think she has a nice body and she seems like she's gotten better at dressing it this past year. She looks cute here.
i happen to think Lo is the prettiest on the hills for sure..
