Saturday, November 01, 2008 || Audrina's Neighbors Roll Out Unwelcome Mat
The Hills aren't alive with the sound of camera crews, thanks to Audrina Patridge's neighbors.
Patridge, like her former BFF Lauren Conrad, is already a target of ire in her community, forcing Los Angeles' film commission to severely limit MTV's filming activity around her new Hollywood Dell digs.
Todd Lindgren, spokesman for FilmL.A., tells E! News that a temporary permit with notable restrictions was given to MTV’s production crew.
"A lot of the neighbors thought there were going to be trucks up there, and there is none of that,” says Lindgren. “There won’t be any cast or crew vehicles up there or equipment.”
Issued last Friday, the permit is good for only 30 days. It only allows for filming four times during that period, once per week, and no shooting is allowed on weekends. The permit also states that there is no loitering allowed on the street.
The production crew can request another permit after this current one expires Nov. 22, but at that time the situation will be reviewed.
Explains one neighbor: “There are concerns of safety. The streets in the hills are very narrow, most of them are red flag fire zones, meaning that days like today that are red flag fire days, you cannot park there.”
But it seems fire safety isn’t the only concern.
“The thing is the paparazzi, which was the problem on Orange Grove [where Conrad lives],” says a member of the Hollywood Dell Civic Association member. “As I understand it, the issue was the paparazzi hanging around, throwing their garbage, throwing lit cigarettes, being belligerent, and this would have an impact on the quality of life in our neighborhood. And of course the looky-loos, you know, the kids that want to come up and check out her house leads to problems.”
Lindgren says that proper restrictions were made and that FilmL.A. and the Council members understand such concerns.
As for the shutterbug issue? “You know, unfortunately, we don’t have any authority over paparazzi visits and tour bus companies that are going up there,” says Lindgren. “We only have the ability to issue the permit; the enforcement is left up to the LAPD.”
A rep for Audrina tells E! News that everything is going smoothly in the new neighborhood.
Sure it is. Just don't hold your breath for the welcome wagon.
