Whitney Port is already losing sleep in the city that never sleeps.
Port, the former "Hills" personality and star of MTV's new spinoff series "The City," hasn't even bought furniture for her new apartment, let alone settled into her new NYC lifestyle.
"There are times when I'm working so much that I just think, 'What am I going to do?'" Port told the Daily News. "But I just have to roll with the punches and take it day by day - that's something that Lauren taught me to do."
Lauren, of course, is Lauren Conrad - star of "The Hills" and Port's friend and former co-worker.
"The City," premiering in 2009, will follow Port's adjustment from the sunny skies of L.A. to the mean streets of New York, much like what "The Hills" did when Conrad left Laguna Beach. It'll capture Port's work life at fashion house Diane von Furstenberg, her friendships and even her romantic relationships.
"Whitney was the person who really wasn't into the 'famous' career, modeling or acting," said Liz Gately, vice president of series development for MTV and executive producer on "The City." "But what I think is great about this new show is that you get to see her in a new light. She really opens up her personal life and there's a whole new set of variables - a new cast, a new city, and it's Whitney at the center."
Part of the new cast will include Port's DVF co-worker, NYC socialite Olivia Palermo.
"She grew up here and she's a pretty cool girl," said Port. "She's someone I can talk to."
Another "City" staple will be Port's friend Erin, whom Port met through an old boyfriend a few years ago.
"Our ex-boyfriends were best friends but she and I have kept in touch even after we each respectively broke up with our boyfriends," said Port. "It's a fun friendship and she's supersmart, caring, funny and loyal."
Port, who was vigilant about keeping her private life private on "The Hills," was the unlikely candidate for her own series, but she says that after much consideration, it was simply an offer that she couldn't refuse.
"I've looked at Lauren's career and all the wonderful things she's been able to do and all the wonderful ways she's been able to help people and I had a conversation with her that really made me confident with my ability to handle this," said Port. "It's very scary to have your whole life on camera but, in the end, I decided that it was an opportunity that I would live to regret if I didn't take it."
