She's known to the masses as Lauren Conrad's quiet sidekick and confidante, but now Whitney Port has spoken upabout her co-stars, TV notoriety, her on-camera persona and much more onYo on E!.
Port, 22, recently chatted with Yo host Michael Yo on his XM and Sirius radio show, airing at 4pm ET/5pm PT on XM 162 and Sirius Radio Channel 107. Read on for excerpts!
On the show's instant success:
“It’s weird. I watch[ed] Laguna Beach and all these other ones - I got fascinated, too. The show a form of escape. Everyone is a little bored with their own lives so they like watching us mess up.”
On her bond with co-star Lauren Conrad:
“We definitely hang out. She’s not one of my best friends, I’ll be honest, but she’s definitely a cool girl.”
On her decision to not appear on camera as much this season:
“I came on to the show just wanting a fashion internship. It was never my idea to be on a reality show and it was always really important to me to keep my private life intimate. I just wanted to be shown in the office.”
On Speidi:
“They are really nice to me. I went to high school with Spencer, so I have a whole different perspective on him. I think that they are trying to get some attention but I don’t think they are truly bad people. I don’t think they are really as bad as they seem. MTV has clearly made them the enemy.”
On SexTapeGate:
“I cant even talk about it anymore. It happened so long ago and is so Over! It’s the last thing Lauren wants.

i like whitney, maybe she just didn't really know spencer. it always bugged me when i first saw him on the hills. he just looks creepy. but there's definitely something wrong about him, if his best friend doesn't want to be friends with him anymore. but whitney get's along with everyone, she never has anything bad to say about someone.

I got the impression that Whitney thinks that Speidi are just playing characters and aren’t truly like that. But I wonder if she doesn’t believe that they were a part of the sex tape rumor because otherwise, I’m not sure how she could really defend them.
Or maybe Whitney doesn’t actually like Lauren? The way she specifically noted that she’s not one of her best friends makes me wonder if she only hangs out with her for the show. Plus the whole “MTV clearly made them the enemy” about Speidi makes it sound like she’s not really on Lauren’s side.
Of course, this is all just speculation. I agree that she’s trying to sound neutral about everyone - just trying to read between the lines here.

Just ignore the loud commentators. 2:13, nice post, I like that you didn't skirt around the issue. I think Lauren and Whitney are definetly friends and she likes her, but she doesn't count her as a close CLOSE friend. You always have friends that you hang out with a lot, and you'd defend and be there for and whatever, but your not tight. You enjoy each other's company and are there for them but that's pretty much it. Its how I see Lauren and her friends sometimes, its hard to truly get into their group but you can definetly have fun with them.
Whit is definetly on Lauren's side coz she knows her better than speidi presumably but she sounds like she'd rather not get too involved in all that and besides, it happened such a long time ago like she said. Her last line shows what she really thinks about the situation and seems to have lauren's interests at heart.
whitney was always one of my favorite people on the show. she seems the most, uh, real, out of a group of otherwise "characters."
it's nice to see someone who is actually level headed and has some great goals...im sure part of her was excited for the glitz and glamor that came with being on a tv show, but it seems like she more so did it for the sake of furthering her fashion career. good for her.
2:13 posting here. I honestly didn’t mean to sound like I was bashing Whitney. I like her (I totally agree, Patricia) and I like Lauren although I’m not really a huge fan or anything.
I was just surprised to hear Whitney defend Spencer and Heidi and blame it on MTV (who is basically telling a story from Lauren’s perspective). I understand if she wants to be friendly with both groups, but I was honestly just curious if maybe she secretly doesn’t like Lauren all that much (and there’s nothing wrong with that - they’ve basically been forced into a friendship by MTV and sometimes people just don’t really click). But maybe you guys are right and she just doesn’t want to get involved - I can see that, too. Like I said, I was just speculating.
