A week after a New York Times critic called Heidi Montag a "feminist hero" and said Lauren Conrad "could learn from Heidi right now," Conrad has spoken out in her own defense.
"I don't depend on men," she told Dramarama, a Canadian entertainment blog. "I have my own career."
The Times critic said Conrad spends her time "pining for [Brody Jenner], who, she has confessed, never makes her feel good enough."
"You show me the girl that is not affected when a guy that she likes, likes another girl," Conrad told Dramarama. "I don't think it makes me any less of a feminist because my emotions are effected."
"I think that I'm very independent and I don't let guys effect my life," she added. "I think in the past I have, and I've learned from it."
When asked if she could learn anything from Montag (who beat Conrad in Us' recent fashion poll), Conrad responded, "I will keep my comments to myself. I think that's really funny."
The March 24 season premiere of MTV's The Hills averaged 4.7 million viewers and there has been talk of a Hills movie.

okay how in the world did freaking Heidi beat out Lauren in a fashion poll? Heidi's clothes are so trashy. And I bet that made her head soooo much bigger than what it already is.
And i'm glad Lauren stuck up for herself with the New York times article. Maybe if they did some research they would have known that during this time that Heidi and Spencer were "taking a break" they were being photographed being fake and cheesy like always.
how did heidi beat her?
easy. spencer voted about 300 times. lol
Yeah, I think that was totally fixed. There was no way Heidi got that many votes. But really who cares about that stupid poll. It doesn't change the fact that Lauren has WAY more fans and Heidi sucks and doesn't have many.
^agree.
us magazine has been giving lauren bad press ever since she denounced their cover story article about how "brody and audrina betrayed her." they hit her where it hurts- giving heidi more favorable press. they've definitely proven how much influence they have over her public image. no doubt the poll was part of that. it must have stung to lose to heidi especially on a poll about fashion (lauren's chosen career). lesson learned: don't mess with janice min.
^couldn't agree with u more on why US mag did that... but we all know US mag is fast losing out their credibility and hardly anyone takes them seriously anymore. I used to love Us, but they're not what they used to be, and it's a shame.
