Wednesday, July 16, 2008 || Lauren's Clothing Line Gets Dropped!

When it rains, it pours for The Hills' star Lauren Conrad. The wanabe clothing designer has been taking some serious heat--first for a public argument during an OK! photoshoot, and most recently from neighbors who say the police had to be called to stop a spat outside Conrad's L.A. home.

On Tuesday, trendy West Hollywood boutique Kitson announced it is dropping LC's clothing line because of dwindling interest.

"Sales were lackluster. Initially it was great," Kitson store owner Fraser Ross said today. Ross says he tried to get the MTV starlet to do a personal appearance in the store, but her people could never find the time.

"They need to realize it’s no different than selling your album, your TV shows, your movies," Ross said. "You have to keep promoting it."

that's what you get for selling such expensive clothes that look pretty average. i get that she wants to be in the higher-end market but so much of her line is just so simple and doesn't look to be worth nearly as much as the price...

People complain about outsourcing, yet when something is made in the USA, u guys complain about the high cost. FYI, a lot name brands are made in other countries.

Kitson What is it?

kitson is a trendy town in los angeles that works closely with celebrities to pimp their clothing line in return for free advertisement for the store. recently kitson has come under scrutiny for their shady dealings with paps, celebrities, and weekly magazines. another poster in a diff lb blog said that lc has focused her efforts in promoting her line at intuition and intermix- kitson's competition.

I just watched E!news and Kitson said the sales were OK but Lauren promised an appearance at their store but it never came to fruitation so they stopped carrying her line.

Yeah I don't think the real situation is as bad as this article makes it seem. Kitson is overpriced anyway. It's not like Lauren's line is alone!

^ yes it is. her line is way overpriced everywhere.

Personally, I have always thought that her line was WAY overpriced.

The clothing was cute, but you could get the same style pieces at other stores for a fraction of the price.

YOU GUYS ARE DENSE. IT IS PRICER B/C IT'S MADE IN THE USA.

If you want cheap then buy from brands that make their clothes in sweatshops.

^ if anyone is dense it's you

dense? i think ur dense... American Apparel is made in the USA and it's not priced like LC.... it's not like her "designs" are any more fancier or delicate than AA.

OH WOW! YOu got me..you name one store. The fact is that there are only a handful of companies that manufactors in the USA.

LC is trying to make a name for herself, so she's not gonna try to make her clothing line cheap as Forever21. Her clothes will prbobably be priced 50buck if not cheaper if it was made overseas.

^ oh really? you're dense and an economist??

if she lowered her prices and made it more accessible to teens and college kids i think she would be more successful... she wants to be a high end designer... but there's nothing high end about her designs. she has to accept that the majority of girls interested in her clothes are going to be teens/college girls and they mostly still get their clothing funds from their parents.... and while some of them do have the means to buy pricey clothes.. a lot of them don't so she should think about that if she wants to be a label widely known and widely worn.

Honestly, I don’t think her things are THAT overpriced. I haven’t bought anything and probably won’t as it’s not my style, but I think there are plenty of similar lines at the same price point. In addition to be made in the US, I think the reason her clothes are more expensive because she’s doing things on a small scale...her clothes aren’t in Macy’s or H&M, they’re in boutiques. So I would assume she does have better quality control and while I haven’t seen them in person, everyone that’s purchased something that I’ve read did say that it was pretty good quality.

Of course everyone’s right that you’ll see similar designs at Forever 21, but that’s because F21 copies trendy designer looks. That’s not to say they were copying Lauren’s designs in particular, but its not like Lauren’s designs are really too original (in other words, F21 is pulling from that certain look, not specifically her). That said, I don’t think she has to be original - not much out there is truly original and half of what is is just plain fug. She’s doing basics and that’s fine IMO.

There are two things that really bug me about the line though. One is that she has these outfits on her website shown with a belt that is not included (and she doesn’t even sell) with no pictures of the outfit without the belt...I don’t feel like I should have to accessorize for it to fit right and how do I know what it looks like without the belt? You can tell it would obviously look different. The second is her cheesy names for the collections - I mean, “Les Deux”? “Beach Butterfly”? “Summer in the City” complete with Carrie, Charlotte, and Samantha dresses (no love for Miranda?)? Seriously, these make me want to vomit.

Her stuff isn't meant to be sold at Target so you aren't paying Target prices. She is selling it at higher end stores where it's at the right price point. I agree that her stuff isn't that overpriced.

her clothes seem overpriced because her designs seem lazy to me.... i don't think she has any talent in designing clothing....her clothes are as boring as she is.

If the recent pictures I've seen of some of Lauren's new designs are any indication, I think she took some more chances with her new collections. They look very nice.

And considering how good the quality apparently is and that it's made in the USA, the line really isn't all that overpriced. If at all.
