Our Awful readers in the Midwest aren’t the only people Lauren Conrad is apparently rubbing the wrong way. Not so hushed word is that enrollment is up at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, largely due to exposure gained from Lauren attending the midtown school. Also, The Hills filming L.C.’s attendance doesn’t hurt by a few million or so hungry fashionista eyeballs.
But one Fashion teacher recently went off, saying Lauren-love is anything but. Nor is Conrad exactly a model student, says the teach. “She doesn’t even go here!” Professor Perturbed ranted to her class recently. “I mean, she goes here, but she comes to class, and that’s it. She’s not involved at all at this school!”
Hey, who has time for extracurricular anything when you’ve got an internship at Teen Vogue, your own fashion line and invites to the hottest parties (none of which Lauren would have, we bet, if it weren’t for The Hills)? But at least the broad didn’t drop out altogether, like her ex-BFF Heidi Montag did. Was that bitchy to end with?
According to this article enrollment is up because Lauren attends. Therefore, she is bringing business (money needed for enrollment) to the school. That's great for the school. So, why a teacher would complain about her not attending more school functions is illogical, not to mention unprofessional to talk behind a student's back. Tsk Tsk.
^Agreed. I think the teacher is just bitter that a student is gaining so much success already without having even graduated yet. Seriously, the option on whether she wants to be super involved with the school or not is really up to Lauren. The only reason why they care is because she's famous. If it were any other student no one would even comment or care of their involvement. They should be happy that enrollment has gone up because of her.
^IA and at least she is still in school and didn't drop out like the other "stars" of LB. She is going to go far. She is determined and creative. She may not always and forever be on the front burner but I think her designs will only get better and better and she will be on the top of the fashion charts.
Sound like sour grapes to me too. A while back Nick Verios (sp?) a former Project Runway contestant who is also her teacher posted on his blog about how hardworking and nice and normal Lauren is.
This teacher should be fired. Lauren has her life to live and it good that she still attends classes and working towards her degree. What time does she has for extracurricular activities? The girl has enough in her plate. The teacher is obviously bitter!
that's pretty f'ed up on the teacher's part, although i must admit, i have wondered in the past how she even has time to go to class when she seems to be always traveling for her job, working on her line, making appearances for the show itself...not to mention going out to clubs and such too (which im sure is easily magnified by the show, i cant imagine her going out EVERY night)
I go to Fidm in LA, and a lot of the teachers tend to roll their eyes when she is mentioned. I do believe its her choice to be involved in school activities or not. It's just a little frustrating that kids come to Fidm because of an MTV show. Many newcomers (I've heard up to 20% from some teachers)wind up not making it to the 2nd quarter because they realize how heavy the course load tends to be. As someone who hears both sides of the love/hate relationship with Lauren- I don't think the teacher should have been fired as some of you suggested.(Fidm is extremely liberal, professors openly talk about politics, gay rights, and drugs/partying in LA nightlife just for starters) At the end of the day Lauren helps Fidm attain recognition, the slackers are weeded out early on, and its been cool getting to catch a glimpse of her around campus.
As someone who's freshman at college right now,I have to say that you want to take in all these extra curricular activities that the college offers but its not always possible. I mean, I have school, two jobs and friends and family to deal with. Extra curricular activities don't rank that high.I tried it but I've had to stop doign it because I simply don't have the time, so I can't even imagine what it must be like for Lauren to try and fit thsoe extra activities into a schedule like hers. She's not superwoman
^ Haters need to get over themselves because she is succeeding. I am sure LC has enough extra curricular activities with her show and her own line. It is nice that she still value education enough to continue to attend classes. People should just leave her alone and allow her to attend classes and finish her degree in peace. F*ck that stupid teacher!!!
"(Fidm is extremely liberal, professors openly talk about politics, gay rights, and drugs/partying in LA nightlife just for starters)"
there's a difference between having a stance on controversial issues and publically bashing one of your students. I'm sorry, that's not acceptable behavior for a teacher at any school.
She barely goes to school. She's been working on this associates degree for three and a half years now. So she's not dedicated and she has no skill in her field.
Allie, well obviously that teacher had a "stance" on Lauren. It's not like the teacher did any name-calling, or rallied up some coalition against the poor girl, or even worse encouraging students to heckle her. A teacher simply didn't kiss the ground she walks on. Not a big deal. Immature? Sure. Worth firing someone over? No way.
9:51- I didn't say this was worth firing her over. it's just extremely unprofessional. both of my parents are teachers/professors, and neither of them would ever make disparaging comments about a student in front of other students. teachers are supposed to behave like adults, not catty high schoolers.
(10:41am here) Keyword being that educators are SUPPOSED to behave like adults. If all educators were adults we wouldn't be locking some up for all the various offenses committed.I get what your saying. Luckily, your parents sound smart and do the right thing. Unfortunately though, not all teachers are like your parents.
Yeah, as mentioned by another poster, Nick Verios (sp) said that Lauren was in one of his classes and she didn't even like the attention that the filming brought in the classroom. He said there were haters for sure but that she was quiet and did nothing to bring on the jealousy. It's fine for the 'teacher' to be liberal minded but in this case it's petty. The 'teacher' is basically crying like a baby because Lauren isn't participating more with the school's activities. wa wa wa She's got other things to do besides make you happy. lol ps-I noticed E has been negative toward Lauren too. They seem annoyed that she goes to so many functions. Again, too bad!
^He should write things that aren't so stupid. The piece of what LC thought of political issues was DUMB. No one is watching The Hills or Laguna and caring what those characters think politically. This piece is equally stupid. It makes the teacher look like an idiot, not LC.
When the professor complained that Lauren's not "involved in the school" did she necessarily mean extra-curricular activities (I think it was just eonline that interpreted it this way)? I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that she meant Lauren literally only physically showed up for the classes and that's it (ie. she wasn't required to take up the responsibilities of a typical student who had to do homework and take exams, etc.). To me it seemed more that the professor was annoyed that Lauren was getting credit for being a true FIDM student when it was really just a front that she didn't earn on her own (much like the Teen Vogue internship). This explanation would much better explain her comment of "she doesn't even go here!". Again, I don't know what the true story is, this is just what it seems like to me.
On another note, I do agree that it was very unprofessional for the professor to admit all this. But hey, professors are human too.
but she is getting credit for "staying in school", "being hardworking", etc. as a "student". The impression that she's getting her college degree in fashion perpetuates her hard-working, good girl image. My guess is that FIDM is going to give her an honorary degree yet make it seem like she did all the standard requirements for her major.
She IS in school according to the teacher. (See above article) The article says the teacher is complaining that she comes to classes and that's it. Again, what any student including Lauren does after classes is her business, The teacher needs to stop crying about it.
"I erected a shrine to LC the time she had that black and white party and was sad that stephen left. Since then I've made it my mission to pretend she's amazing in every single way. I love how she dresses, how she hooks up with losers and how she toasts! It's so cute! Someday Stephen, Jason and everyone in the whole world will realize that Lauren is the goddess I know her as!

I personally think she's "in school" just like how she's an "intern at Teen Vogue". She is there and present in the classroom/office but we all know how hard she really has to "work".

This "teacher" seems really mature. I doubt Lauren has time for anything but class, as well as most people that go there.
The teacher should seriously get a life.
blah blah blah, who has time for extracurricular activities when you have a clothing line and a hit show to promote, whaa, whaa, whaa, cry me a river.
^my thoughts exactly.
Sound like sour grapes to me too. A while back Nick Verios (sp?) a former Project Runway contestant who is also her teacher posted on his blog about how hardworking and nice and normal Lauren is.

Lauren's a fool
OMGZ U GUYZ!
NO ONE CAN SAY ANYTHING BAD ABOUT LC!
NO ONEEEEE
...losers.
It's just that Lauren is a talentless hack with a carbon copy style.

You don't need to worship Lauren, you don't even know her!
POOR LAUREN! OH GAWD THIS HURTS MY SOUL

Ted Casablanca has nothing better to do. He should get off LC's back.

well, if she's not doing the work, she wouldn't be getting credit for the classes, so it would be kind of a waste of her time to show up at all.
