Tuesday, July 29, 2008 || The Secret Life of Audrina

Season 3 of " The Hills" is out on DVD this week, and in honor of the occasion, we snagged some quality time with Audrina Patridge while she was en route to get her hair done in Beverly Hills. Patridge spilled on the real deal between her and Lauren Conrad, her first big movie role and the best part about being famous.

Is Lauren your friend?

We live together, so yeah, we see each other a lot while the show is taping. Sometimes I see her when it's not.

But is she your friend outside of "The Hills"?

We don't have a lot of the same friends, but we try to reserve one night a week to hang out. In the fourth season, you'll see our fight gets cleared up. Basically, I just start doing my own thing separately from her and Lo [Lauren Bosworth], and I get busy. But you know, things change and friendships do drift apart sometimes. Lauren and I aren't not friends, we're just not as close as we used to be.

What about Lo? Do you blame moving in together with her and Lauren for the rift in your friendship?

I do think living in that separate guest house of mine was definitely the cause of the tension between Lauren and me. We were used to being right next to each other in our apartment. I don't really blame Lo, she and Lauren have been friends for a long time.

Do you think you're portrayed accurately on "The Hills"?

I think I've been portrayed well on the show. But it's based on Lauren's life, so some of the things in my life, like my friends, aren't on the show: my personal life with my true friends and my family, me going to acting classes, shooting a movie. They filmed a little, but they can't air everything.

What's the biggest misconception about you?

I don't feel like they show me on "The Hills" sticking up for myself. They edit that out. I'm generally happy with how I look when it comes out. In real life, though, I'm bubbly and fun and talkative and when you see me on the show I'm always sitting there and sad. But I'm fine with it because it's not my show. I'm there because of Lauren.

Tell us about the movie you just shot, a sequel to "Into the Blue."

We filmed on Oahu. Everyone was so nice and supportive. It's so different from a reality show because I have lines to memorize. "The Hills" definitely helped just in terms of being in front of the cameras and being used to crews watching me. It made it a lot more comfortable on a film set. There were also a lot more people, but I felt very prepared.

Do you still work at Epic Records? Are you still looking to pursue a career in the music industry?

I don't work as much there as I used to. It's definitely not how it used to be when the series started.

What's your title there?

You know, I don't know my title. I help out with anything. I help out with artists every now and then, making sure they're taken care of. I also do some A&R, listen to demos. But I'm really focusing on acting.

Tell us about the first time you got recognized in public?

I think it was during the second season. It was a lot of little girls. Some of them cried. I kept telling them, 'I'm normal, I promise.' There was also one time when this older woman at a make-up counter just started giving me advice about Justin Bobby and the girls and living in L.A. It was weird, but when people meet me they feel like they know me. I was at the beach just yesterday and this lady from Minnesota sat down and just started talking to me. They just feel very comfortable. It's very flattering.

What's the best thing about being a star?

The best part is getting opportunities to go to huge awards shows. We got to present at the MTV VMAs last year and you're surrounded by these amazing artists. It's just so exciting.

Do you ever read tabloids?

My mom does. She calls me and says 'Oh my gosh, they said this about you.' A lot of it isn't true. I try to stay away. A lot of people call in and get paid for that.

What do you think of people who do read tabloids?

It think it's a form of entertainment. Watching celebrities and catching them doing something wrong, it's part of the industry. If you're famous, you have to accept it.

What is your sitting-around-the-house outfit?

A tank top and Victoria Secret blue booty shorts.

What is your favorite thing to do alone?

Go on my laptop and answer e-mails. There's a lot of them. I like to respond to people who message me on my Myspace. The real me is "Audrina XO," not all the other Audrinas listed.

If you could change one thing about being a star what would it be?

If I want privacy, I wish I could have it. We have paparazzi sit outside the house, and I don't mind if they follow me in Los Angeles, but I wish I could have privacy when I drive out to see my parents and family.

This is her best interview IMO. It definitely seems like she answered each question honestly without insulting other cast members and came across as mature, grounded and sincere. Love her.

Excellent interview! This is precisely why I love Audrina, she is refreshingly candid yet never has a mean word to say about anyone.

Don't worry Audrina once the Hills is over you will have all the privacy you want 'cause nobody will care about you anymore.

So basically her and Lauren arent really friends that much.

They're just acquaintinces who happen to kind of live together.

I agree, that was a great interview. It was quite revealing, too. She basically said she and Lauren aren't friends just acquaintences(otherwise she would have just said "yes, we're friends") and it also appears that the Epic thing isn't really a job (she just helps out with anything).

Not that any of this suprises me - it's just nice to finally see someone be (a bit) more honest about it.

I think Lauren and Audrina were good friends (like at the beginning of season 3) and they still care about each other, but after everything that happened they're just acquaintances now.

I hope Audrina does succeed in acting but honestly I don't really see that many people caring about ANY of the 'hills' girls once it's over.

they became friends purely due to the show. I'm sure they liked each other a lot in the beginning too and had lots of fun being girly girls together. But as time went on, the initial novelty of each other wore off, and they got to really know each other, I'm sure they both realized that they really don't have much in common. And living together, I'm sure they both realized a lot of things they don't like each about each other as well. It's just the way things go sometimes.

Overall, I'm sure they each think the other is a good person, but really the only think keeing them together is the show.

I think Audrina was an awesome friend to Lauren after Lauren repaid her by constantly dissing her behind her back and then dropping her like a hot potato once Lo was more available. Audrina deserves better! I love her for her honesty and for always keeping it real. We all know damn well if Lauren were asked these very same questions she would be all "of course we're still bff's!
