The Hills' resident villain Spencer Pratt has been called everything from a brainwasher to a pig, but the question remains: Are his feelings for fiancée Heidi Montag real?
Though Pratt's childhood pal Alex Jackson insists that the couple are "very much in love," others believe he's simply using Montag for fame.
"Spencer used to brag about how he wanted to be famous and he'd do it by becoming an It couple with Heidi," says one Hills insider.
For her part, Montag seems to be taking the rumors in stride. On Thursday, Montag, 20, poked fun at herself by sporting a t-shirt reading "I Got Tricked."
Pratt, 24, who told Details magazine that his goal was to date every girl on The Hills, even dated costar Audrina Patridge behind Montag's back.
He "reached out to Audrina to increase his chances of becoming a show fixture," says a second Hills insider.
"She wasn't interested, but Heidi was. It was a process of elimination."
Spencer's defense? "Anyone who the truth knows that I was into Heidi from the beginning," he tells Us.

Poor Heidi! No dignity. It seems like she is walking a busy street proclaiming that she got "tricks". Sad and Pathetic.

Haha she's walking around with no purse, clearly no running gear on, and no one with her. Where is she going? What is her purpose in this photo other than posing? Is she that BORED? Haha I am so sad for her!
This has nothing to do with the photo but I just heard Heidi's song cuz she has it on her myspace page.
She's not even singing. I mean I couldnt even hear her through all the music going on, it drowns her out. Needless to say it completely sounds studio. It's like something my friends and I can put together at a theme park.
The beat sounds like something you might be able to dance to but I think she's a studio artist. I cant imagine what would happen if she tried to sing live.
I know this is old news now, but I just heard it. :-)
What the hell is heidi doing? She looks like a little hoe on the side of the road trying to get a ride somewhere, this girl has let hollywood get way over head when nobody hardly knows her name!!!!
